The Story So Far singer dropkicks selfie-taker offstage

We’ve likely never written about pop-punk band The Story So Far before, and we likely won’t again unless something like this keeps happening. At Sunday’s show in Toronto, ON, frontman Parker Cannon saw a girl make her way onstage. Instead of saluting the band, or instantly stage-diving into the crowd, she decided to make a Snapchat. Cannon didn’t take kindly to that, and dropkicked the girl off stage.

Since then, a number of things have happened. The Mod Club, where the incident took place, have banned the band from returning. “We are appalled by the actions of the singer,” manager Jorge Dias said. “That was a very cowardly act.” And the woman herself has spoken out. Instead of being critical, Becca Illic spoke on Facebook, defending the band and saying that it was fine, she wasn’t hurt, and she deserved it because she was drunk:

“I was at the show, got up on stage and tried to take a stupid snapchat video of me jumping in the crowd. I was drunk and my phone wasn’t working properly to load the app so I stood there longer than I had anticipated. She apologized to the band and the audience, and continued: “As expected at all hardcore shows, Parker was going with the flow and just hyping up the crowd so he kicked me off the stage. It was all in good fun in my opinion, and it wasn’t even a hard kick, just like a push or nudge… I laughed when I fell into the crowd and I kept rocking out. I just want to set the record straight that I’m fine and I hope this doesn’t change anyone’s opinion on the band.”

It actually appears to have changed quite a few peoples’ opinions. The band haven’t made a comment yet, but if you go to their Facebook page, there are a lot of comments from people calling Parker out for kicking an oblivious woman in the back. Will The Story So Far beat the rap as woman beaters? It’s up to the court of public opinion now.
