California metalcore masters Atreyu have been around for almost 20 years. A short hiatus between 2011 and 2014 led to the release of their latest album, Long Live. But one of their most important albums was 2006’s A Death-Grip On Yesterday. which gave em their first breakthrough on the top 10 of the Billboard charts. This year, it’s turning a decade old and the band will celebrate the milestone by playing it in its entirety.
The band will head on a new headlining tour this coming May, where they will be performing the record front to back for the first time, along with some other classic tunes and tracks from their newest album. To join them on the trek, the quintet tapped guitarist-less Sworn In and Islander, with a select date with Nekrogoblikon.
Frontman Alex Varkatzas commented about the anniversary tour:
“‘Death-Grip’ is my favorite ‘older’ ATREYU album. It represents an exciting time and place for myself and my brothers. It’s our most ‘to the point’ record. I also feel it’s one of our most natural records as well. Lyrically, I got to run free and it felt great. We are pleased to play it in its entirety and give each song its due!”
Drummer Brandon Saller added:
“For me, ‘Death-Grip’ was a landmark record in our career. I feel that it was the first album we made where we took fearless leaps into the unknown. This record is still one of my favorite pieces of work we’ve ever done and I feel like our fans hold it in the same regard. I’m really excited to celebrate 10 great years of this album’s life. We will be playing ‘Death-Grip’ front to back, as well as a good bunch of other favorites.”
