Just yesterday, members of The Ghost Inside broke their silence on social media following their terrible November bus accident that took two lives. There were posts on Twitter and Instagram from singer Jonathan Vigil, guitarist Zach Johnson and drummer Andrew Tkaczyk. While Vigil and Johnson posted pictures of themselves, Tkaczyk instead posted a shot of a view outside a window, stating “Not exactly the most breathtaking view of all time, but it’s nice to look outside an remember what life is like after being in the hospital for 50 days. Staying Strong. Hanging in there. Remain Focused.” Today he posted another picture, this time of his face and lower half, confirming that he lost a leg in the accident. Here’s what his post says:
So the rumors are true everyone! Unfortunately I did lose my leg in this accident. This is one injury among many others such as fractures in my ribs, spine, and hip along with some ligament tears in my rotator cuff and Labrum. I have remained in positive and good spirits since I woke up from a 10 day coma in November to the sight of my missing leg. Not going to let it stop me. I don’t care what anyone says. It’s a long road ahead, but I WILL play drums again. Can’t wait to get back on the kit. Couldn’t have dealt with this without the love and support from my brothers in TGI & crew, friends, fans and family. Thank you all.
That’s got to be an awful thing to wake up to after being in a coma, but it seems like Tkaczyk has a good positive mental attitude about everything. It’s definitely going to be an uphill battle, but Def Leppard’s Rick Allen was able to overcome the loss of a limb after his car accident, and with drum triggers and lots and lots of work, it’s not out of the realm of impossiblity that he’ll be able to play with the band. Positive healing thoughts to Tkaczyk and the other members of The Ghost Inside.
