In less than two weeks, we’ll get two albums worth of music from Iron Maiden when The Book of Souls is released. Until then, we’ve got the best video game to never come out to look at. We also now know what one of the songs on the album is about. Entertainment Weekly reports that Bruce Dickinson did an interview with Italian publication Corriere Della Sera about the new album, where he spoke about “Tears of a Clown,” a song on the album written by Steve Harris and Adrian Smith.
“My favorite song is one I didn’t write. It’s ‘Tears of a Clown,’ which talks about Robin Williams. I ask myself how could he be so depressed when he always seemed to be so happy.”
So while it’s not a Smokey Robinson & the Miracles cover, it is a tribute to a comedian whose career mirrors that of Maiden’s, in that they were both gigantic in the ’80s, and have had continued success into the 2010’s. Williams tragically committed suicide last year.
