And just like that, another year has almost passed. Who knows what 2012 brings? We can’t predict the future, but the least we could do is ask some people in the metal community what they think might happen, as well as what they’re looking forward to in the coming year.
Brian Slagel (Founder/CEO of Metal Blade Records)
What are you most looking forward to in 2012?
Right now, the European festival schedule! Some great stuff like Hellfest, Grasspop, Summer Breeze!
Any predictions of what next year is going to bring?
I think a lot more great metal!
Richard Christy (Charred Walls Of The Damned/ Howard Stern personality)
What are you most excited for in 2012?
In 2012 I’m looking forward to continuing to have a blast at my job on the Howard Stern Show, releasing the Charred Walls of the Damned “Zerospan” video, touring with Charred Walls of the Damned, drinking tons of craft beers and doing tons of brewery tours, watching craploads of old horror movies that I’ve already seen a million times like Night of the Creeps and The Fog, hanging out with my wife and our new Guinea Pig Sugar, hopefully doing a cross country boozy Amtrak trip like we did back in 2007, hopefully taking my wife to Europe for her first time there and drinking some awesome Belgian beers right out of the tap, looking forward to the release of two movies that I’m in “Pennhurst” and “Serial Buddies”, listening to Amon Amarth’s “With Oden On Our Side” for the 5,289,903th time, and hopefully King Diamond will be back out on tour cause I’m dying to see him live again!
Any predictions of what next year is going to bring?
My predictions for 2012 is that Paris Hilton is going to say something REALLY stupid, people will still be sick of The Kardashians, my wife will watch every episode of the upcoming shows “7 and Pregnant” and “Teen Great-Grandma”, and someone will make a craft beer that tastes like Candy Corns and I will try to drink a whole keg of it when it goes on tap in New York City next October.
Daniel Liljekvist (Katatonia)
What are you most excited for in 2012?
Recording, releasing and touring the upcoming Katatonia album.
Any predictions of what next year is going to bring?
Lou Reed joins Metallica full time.
Chris Reifert (Autopsy)
What are you most excited for in 2012?
Why, more Autopsy music of course! What more could anyone ask for?
Any predictions of what next year is going to bring?
Yes, I have a few indeed. And here they are:
-The Bay City Rollers will record a death metal version of “Rock ‘n Roll Love Letter” and will rise to the top of the charts in a blaze of glory.
-Lady Gaga will try to join Autopsy but we will sadly have to turn her away.
-Breathing air will be outlawed.
-Carrot Top will become funny overnight.
-The Mayans will come back in a gleaming seven mile long caravan of original Volkswagon Bugs.
-All round objects will become square.
-6 will finally become 9.
-All of the world’s water supply will turn into a mass of sausage gravy and it will be delicious.
-People will find that their 2011 calendars have been rendered worthless and will be forced to use calendars created just for 2012.
I’m pretty sure at least one of those predictions will come true. Sounds like quite a year, eh?
John Laux (Warbringer)
What are you most excited for in 2012?
-The new Napalm Death record.
-Our band’s European summer festival line-up, including Wacken, Bang Your Head, and PartySan.
Any predictions of what next year is going to bring?
Nope. Just that I predict Warbringer will do loads of traveling, touring, and bro-down time on the road.
Carl Parnell (Sylosis)
What are you most excited for in 2012?
Well, we’re all really looking forward to new Gojira and Psycroptic records in 2012.
Any predictions of what next year is going to bring?
Not sure on predictions but maybe 2012 will bring news on a new Necrophagist album, we hope! It’s been long enough already.
Joel Birch (The Amity Affliction)
What are you most excited for in 2012?
Putting out a new record and touring with some new songs… And hopefully playing more than five songs in America hahaha
Any predictions of what next year is going to bring?
Some new piece of shit band with their entire cd playing on the backing track will get huge. People in bands will laugh. Sounds kinda like 2011.
