Fans were excited to see Opeth touring with Katatonia during the last few weeks for multiple reasons. First, because both bands are awesome and complement each other live very well. The second and possibly more important reason was the potential Bloodbath reunion that could result from both bands being on tour together.

For those unaware, Bloodbath is a Swedish death metal supergroup that’s made up of members from Opeth (Mikael Åkerfeldt and Martin Axenrot) and Katatonia (Anders Nyström, Per Eriksson and Jonas Renkse). While the band is still technically together, and Nyström even revealed that they hoped to record new material last year in an interview with us, each musician has understandably been busy with their own bands.

Though no reunion occurred throughout the tour, Bloodbath made a surprise appearance during the tour’s final show in Baltimore, MD this past Wednesday night (November 2). The supergroup took the stage following Katatonia’s set to perform a two song encore. Luckily for us, fan filmed footage of the mini-reunion show has made its way online. You can watch Bloodbath’s two song’s performance in its entirety in the video above.
