Massachusetts metalcore heavyweights Unearth released their sixth album Watchers Of Rule in October of last year. The album is their first on current label eOne after departing from Metal Blade, which released their past four albums. While the first song from the album, “The Swarm,” was released back in September, just yesterday, the official video for the song was released.
Featured in the video is impressive guitar work from Buz McGrath and Ken Susi, drummer Nick Pierce making his debut in an official Unearth video, noticeably shorter but still acceptably headbangable hair from vocalist Trevor Phipps, and so much lens flare you’d suspect that J. J. Abrams directed it (he didn’t, the video was directed by Dale “Rage” Resteghini and Tim Foster).
Absent from the video is a bass player. Longtime Unearth bassist John “Slo” Maggard (who also provided keyboards and backing vocals during his tenure with the band) officially left in 2014. Former Chimaira guitarist and current Fear Factory bassist Matt DeVries had been filling in on touring bass duties for Unearth since 2013, although he’s not visible in the video for “The Swarm.”
