Before Alice in Chains was Alice In Chains, they were known as Alice ‘N Chains. And while it was no secret that they had a hair metal past, some recently-unearthed footage  from 1986 shows just how much. Singer Layne Staley is the only member in this incarnation that went on to be in the one that got signed to Columbia four years later. And while it’s unmistakably him,  he’s wearing a lot of spandex.

This  footage was filmed in May of 1986 at the University of Washington’s Kane Hall in Seattle. The other members in the band at the time were Nick Pollack, James Bergstrom and Johnny Bacolas, who posted the footage.
