Shortly after kicking off the tour, Meshuggah vocalist Jens Kidman caught a bad case of the flu. The illness sidelined the singer for a few shows, and forced Meshuggah to perform instrumentally (and one show with an imposter). Hours before they were supposed to hit the Roseland Ballroom’s stage in New York on Friday (February 15), fans still weren’t sure if Kidman was still too ill to perform. Then, to the delight and surprise of many, Kidman appeared onstage with his bandmates.

Kidman’s appearance was the cherry on top of a prog-metal heavy evening, also featuring sets from Animals As Leaders and Intronaut. Photographer Derek Soto from Sinestra Studios was on hand to shoot the show. Check out photos from each band’s set in the gallery after the jump.
