2012 has already started off on a bad note for The Human Abstract. Right before the end of last year, bassist Henry Selva hinted via Facebook that the band was taking a long term hiatus. Though an official announcement about the band’s future was never released, the news wasn’t too hard to believe (especially with singer Travis Richter’s departure this past Summer). However, according to guitarist Dean Herrera, The Human Abstract aren’t completely dead.

When asked by a fan via Formspring whether the band still would’ve broken up if Richter never left, Herrera gave the following response:

“as far as im concerned we aren’t broken up, that was Henry going out and spewing the inner workings of the band. We never actually came together and decided anything. I’m still real pissed at him for that. Sure we’re taking time, but that doesn’t mean anything other than that… Taking time.. As far as travis…. who knows… can’t say what might have happened.”

On the one hand, it could be argued that people looked too much into Selva’s original statement. At the same time, though, it would appear that Herrera thinks that Selva was out of line. It’s unclear as to how long The Human Abstract will be inactive, but from the looks of things they certainly need to take some time off. Hopefully, though, the band can work out any inner issues and regroup sooner than later.
