Pelican have spend quite a bit of time on the road since the release of Forever Becoming, and it’s been nicely summed up by the video for “Deny the Absolute,” which debuted on Chicagoist today. Shot by Kenneth Thomas during their Summer tour, the black and white video features some footage of the band playing, but many more of what life on the road is like when not on stage. Sitting in traffic, empty party platters of veggies backstage and stretching while warming up for the show is a hell of a lead up to the catharsis of playing live, and this video captures that perfectly. Guitarist Trevor de Brauw says he didn’t know the footage of him headbanging during Tombs’ sound check while checking email existed until he saw the video.
If you’re in Chicago, you can see the band play at Subterranean on New Year’s Eve with The Life and Times and Pinebender. Tickets are available here.
