It’s been six years since the last original album from Primus, and in several weeks, the band will be releasing The Desaturating Seven. For the second time in two albums, they’ve taken a literary source to base the album around. 2014’s Primus & The Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble was a loose cover of the soundtrack of the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, itself an adapatation of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. The new album, their ninth, is based on the children’s book The Rainbow Goblins. It’ll be the first Primus album with drummer Tim Alexandar back in the fold since 1995’s Tales from the Punchbowl.

Today, the band have released “The Scheme.” It’s a relatively short song that’s instantly recognizable as Primus from the second the signature bass slap starts. The Desaturating Seven will be released on September 29th on ATO and can be preordered here.
