As anticipated, Lucy Burns, the new side project from Decapitated frontman Rafal “Rasta” Piotrowski and his collaborator Mr. G, has released their debut single, “Ocooltica.” Produced by Jarosław Baran, the song blends electronic and hip-hop beats with dark melodies for a sound that’s both rhythmic and heavy.

A video for “Ocooltica,” directed by Dariusz Mandes premiered along with the song and can be seen below. The clip, which finds Piotrowski playing a skeleton-painted witch doctor/ringmaster of sorts, is supposed to be “a visual tale of the power of music.”

The beginnings of Lucy Burns were set in 2019, though Piotrowski and Mr. G had already been working with each other on various other heavy-music projects in the studio. Said Piotrowski about the new project, “I wanted to create something different from the sounds that accompany me. This project is a lot of fun for me, because I have a chance to experiment with my best friend over a variety of sounds. The idea was total creative freedom. We do what we want, the way we want, and we don’t limit ourselves to any drawing, scheming.”

More songs from Lucy Burns are said to be on the way, leading to a full-length album in the future. A timeline for when we might hear more from the duo has not been revealed yet.

Last week, Decapitated announced that they have gotten back into the studio to record new music. The band released their last album, Anticult, in 2017.
