Things have taken a turn for the odd following Jani Lane’s death almost two weeks ago. According to TMZ, police found a note in the former Warrant singer’s pocket that read “I am Jani Lane” and a phone number. Investigators immediately called the number and were able to confirm that the note had been written by a friend of Jani’s, who apparently has placed similar notes on him in the past.
It is unclear whether said friend also checked Lane into the hotel where his body was found, but police are not expecting foul play. Lane’s family are infuriated by the note, telling TMZ that the note’s writer obviously knew of Lane’s substance abuse problem and should have helped Lane seek treatment.
Unfortunately, Lane’s struggle with addiction has become apparent to everyone. Shortly after Lane’s body was first found, it was revealed that a half empty bottle of vodka and prescription medication was found at the scene. Lane was 47 years old. A memorial service was held for the late singer in Ohio this past weekend.
