8. Kyuss, Blues for the Red Sun

While this isn’t technically Kyuss’ first full length, this is pretty much the first one that brought them notice. It marked the first time the band worked with Masters of Reality guitarist/singer Chris Goss as a producer, who would work with the band for the rest of their (unfortunately too brief) career. One listen to “Green Machine” sums the band up in a nutshell: big riffs, guitars that sounded like they were played through bass amps (mainly because they were), and John Garcia’s soulful vocals. Despite what’s happened to the band in recent years, this early ‘90s stoner rock masterpiece was the template for their next two albums, and Queens of the Stone Age.
