It’s been well documented about how Dave Mustaine held a grudge with Metallica long after getting ousted pre-Kill Em’ All. It wasn’t until the Big 4 shows that the Megadeth frontman finally made amends with his former bandmates in Metallica. In fact, now he’s best friends with his one-time enemies, joining them onstage and even trying to form a supergroup with them. However, Metallica’s James Hetfield still thinks Mustaine talks a little too much, especially about forming a supergroup.

As part of Metallica and Metal Hammer’s special So What! Magazine 30th Anniversary edition, previews of which can be seen online, Hetfield had the following to say about reconnecting with Mustaine and other past members (including Jason Newsted):

“… I think especially with Dave, with all of his struggles. I see him healthier now. I see him as less of a bitter guy. But I do see a lot of stuff in the press with him talking about jamming with us and making an album. All this other crazy stuff. I read it and say to myself, ‘Hold on. This is the Dave that we kind of wanted to forget about. You know, the big mouth that wants to just go-go-go.’ But there is an authenticity about him when he speaks. He doesn’t think too much before he does. He just goes off the cuff. Plus, when he says stuff like that it’s well-intended.”

Now before you start thinking that the feud is back on, at least Hetfield gives Mustaine credit for being well-intended. And it’s not like Metallica are cutting Mustaine off in any way. Hetfield is simply stating that Mustaine tends to ramble on a little too much, something other musicians have said in a less friendly way.
