This would certainly explain why Nevermore dropped off of Symphony X’s upcoming headlining tour. In a shocking twist, it’s been announced that guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams have left the Seattle progressive metal group. In a joint statement, the two had the following to say:
“In a mutual decision Jeff Loomis and Van Williams have decided to leave Nevermore. The time has come to pursue our own paths from the group. Due to internal struggles and ongoing issues within the band, we feel it is our time to move on. We would like to thank all of our fans around the world for their years of love, support and enthusiasm. This was not an easy decision but a very necessary one at this point, may we all meet again someday, somewhere in time.”
Considering that Loomis and Williams have been in the group since the band’s debut self-titled album in 1995, this is a pretty major blow to Nevermore. Not only does this news hit shortly after canceling their touring plans, but also while bassist Jim Sheppard has been recovering from brain surgery. Loomis himself said recently that Sheppard would return to the group once fully recovered, but now his and Williams’ departure from Nevermore puts a lot up in the air.
No statement from the remaining members of Nevermore has been released yet. As always, we’ll keep you posted when more develops.
