The saxophone was basically the punchline of the ’80s. An instrument that was so “cool,” it became uncool. Sure, there were some solid songs that featured the instrument (well, if you can call “Baker Street” cool), and Clarence Clemons was pretty badass in his day, but by the ’80s, the instrument was pretty much relegated to Huey Lewis and the News solos and Sade records. Of course everything eventually becomes cool again, and we’re in the midst of a sax renaissance. Now some of the metal that’s in metal is gold and a woodwind instrument.
