When Misfits announced earlier this year that they would be burying the hatchet and playing both Riot Fests, pretty much anyone that’s listened to punk or metal for the last 30 years lost their shit. Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only and Wolfgang Doyle von Frankenstein hadn’t played together since 1983, and it seemed like the only place they were about to meet up was in a courtroom. The only thing that wasn’t (and still isn’t) set was who would be drumming for them. It was promised, however, but Danzig that whoever was drumming “will blow your mind when I tell you.” with Only saying that he was a “family guy” who’s desire to stay home cost him some gigs. Now there are rumors that the drummer could be none other than former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo.

Blabbermouth, who broke the rumor, doesn’t name a source for their allegation, so this should be taken with a grain of salt. And while Lombardo is currently playing and touring with Suicidal Tendencies, it should be noted that ST is playing the Denver (September 2-4) Riot Fest, but not the Chicago one (September 16-18). However, if there’s one drummer that can keep up with the breakneck tempos of the Misfits, Lombardo is certainly up there.
