You might have seen certain maps like this before, but here’s the latest one. Movoto have made this interactive map of the United States that shows where certain music genres are most popular. To create the map, the data was collected from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, and state-level music preferences from Wikipedia. You can check out the map yourself, but we obviously chose to focus on the results for rock, metal, and punk. Note that red represents highest concentration while green is lowest.
Rock seems to come out on top as the most preferred genre nationwide, with the expected highest concentrations being in Los Angeles and New York City.
Metal, unsurprisingly, has similar concentrations to rock though there are notable surges in Wisconsin and Washington.
Finally, punk basically dominates the west coast with a strong surge in Nashville, TN. Of course, there’s no telling how valid these maps truly are, so don’t feel too bad if you don’t feel like your region is repping metal all that well.
