Converge/Mutoid Man drummer Ben Koller has teamed up with royalty expert and educator Dan Hegarty (Conflict One Zero) to launch the Heavy Music Collective, a new division of Word Collections aimed at helping heavy music artists recover streaming royalties. The initiative already counts Metallica, Baroness, Converge, The Offspring, Greta Van Fleet, and Yngwie Malmsteen among its clients.

Word Collections, with Metallica as a lead investor through Black Squirrel Partners, launched the division to track and collect mechanical royalties from streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and more. Koller explained that unclaimed royalties are often redirected to major publishers after three years, leaving many independent and heavy acts without income they’ve rightfully earned.

The Heavy Music Collective promises to recover unpaid royalties worldwide, cut out intermediaries, and educate musicians on how to secure their earnings. The group operates on a no-fee-until-paid model, ensuring artists only pay once money is collected. More information and applications are available at this location.
