Dark Fortress recently revealed their tour would be their last. The trek has now, sadly, come to a conclusion, and the group has called it quits after three decades. 2020’s Spectres From The Old World marks the group’s final record, which landed at #21 in Metal Insider’s top 50 albums of 2020 year-end list. We thank these German melodic black metal giants for all the incredible work they’ve put out over the years.

The band issued their farewell message via social media:

“R.I.P. Dark Fortress 1994-2023 Hard to believe it’s done. We are humbled about the overwhelming response to our final tour! Nearly all shows were absolutely packed with the most loyal, most passionate and most far-traveled fans imaginable. Seeing all of you go crazy every night, some of you at multiple shows (you know who you are!) has been a mind-blowing experience and a humongous final present to us, and we thank you from the bottom of our rotten souls for reminding us of the legacy we’re leaving behind after three decades of refusing to quit. We also bow to our dear friends from The Spirit and Asphagor, our excellent crew, our world-class sessionists and ex-members, the bus drivers, and the local staff at the venues who often went above and beyond to take care of us. We couldn’t have wished for a better way to end this massive chapter in our lives, and we’ll never forget the last two weeks thanks to all of you. Forever Yours, Asvargr, Morean, V Santura and Phenex”
