Well, this may have taken a turn for the ugly… just a few hours ago, guitarist Trey Azagthoth revealed plans for a new Morbid Angel record with former bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker. But it didn’t take long for original frontman David Vincent to make things a tad confusing, claiming he has neither left nor been fired from the band.
Vincent (who rejoined Morbid Angel in 2004 after first parting ways with the band in 1996) issued the following statement denying claims that Morbid Angel is moving forward without him:
“I am aware of Trey Azagthoth’s announcement of a collaboration with Steve Tucker on new music. However, the inference that I have left MORBID ANGEL is incorrect. To be clear, I have not left MORBID ANGEL nor have I been asked to do so.”
So either there was a misunderstanding and Vincent is indeed still in Morbid Angel, or Vincent didn’t get the memo that he’s out of a job. Granted, it wouldn’t be too hard to believe that Azagthoth and Tucker were working together in a band outside of Morbid Angel. However, the statement made on the band’s Facebook page seems to strongly indicate that the two are indeed reuniting as Morbid Angel. It also doesn’t help that shortly after the post was made, drummer Tim Yeung (who joined the band five years ago) confirmed rumors that he was no longer in the band.
Regardless of whatever is actually happening within the Morbid Angel camp, we’re sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear about it.
