Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s ongoing column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Montreal’s Tumbleweed Dealer as they celebrate the release of their fourth album, Dark Green. While the band isn’t currently touring, that just means their dog has plenty of time to take a paws and snooze to Sleep’s Dopesmoker.
Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?
My wife loves animals and sometimes it feels like a god damn zoo in our little 3 room apartment! We got two cats, Ryuk and Goku, a dog named Lucy (short for Lucifer of course) and my kid has a lizard called Mister Beast.

Have you ever taken your pet on tour?
No, I’ve been off the road for a while, and pets were not part of my life when I was actively touring. It’s the family life that brought me to have all these animals.
Who looks after your pet while on the road?
We don’t tour but we do plan on hitting up a cruise later this year and the sister-in-law will take the dog. My sister lives nearby so we are going to pay my niece to drop by and feed the rest of the animals while we are gone.

What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?
Lucy is very lazy and just stays in our bed all day so I’m guessing she must be a big SLEEP fan, so probably Dopesmoker.
How did you introduce your pet to metal?
If you’re going to live with me you are going to be introduced to all kinds of music, whether you want to or not!

What animal charity means most to you?
Anything that puts pets in need of contact with owners. Goku is a rescue cat that the sister-in-law found around a hotel she was working at. We took him off the mean streets of Sherbrooke and gave him a nice, warm, loving home…. And he got so fat!
