Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s ongoing column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Italy’s experimental metal outfit SVNTH , as Valerio Primo (samples, percussion) reveals his cats listen to a shift from Static-X to Coldworld.
Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?
So, I’ve got two cats, they’re brothers and quite the opposite of each other. First off we have “Panzer” you can guess he’s the lively one; we found the little guy in an SUV’s radiator screaming his lungs out, as soon as we brought him home he went exploring and slept directly on my brother’s lap, size wise he wasn’t much but the name was fitting, nothing ever stopped him, not even doors, pretty metal name too I guess. Then we’ve got “Chopin” the romantic one, definitely more reserved, a real cat, deadly towards anything that has blood and weighs less then 1Kg, he does like cuddles a lot though… In the right amount.
Have you ever taken your pets on tour?
Oh gosh, I could never, we’re tight in our van as it is, plus I worry a lot already when they go around in my parents’ neighborhood. Chopin just sits on the grass looking at the flowers, obviously (unless he finds some poor soul to claim), but the other one disappears 12 hours a day.
Who looks after your pets while on the road?
My parents. We’ve all had the cats since we were living under the same roof. It’s actually very hard to say whose cats they are. I suppose it’s easier to see them as brothers who can’t afford their own house.
What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?
Panzer’s favorite album is probably “Wisconsin Death Trip” from Static-X. While for Chopin, I’d definitely say “Melancholie²” from Coldworld.
How did you introduce your pets to metal?
I constantly listened to music, and they always hung around, so I guess they liked it, and it stuck.
What animal charity means most to you?
Definitely WWF; since I was a child, I had the monthly magazine come to my house, I learned a lot thanks to them, and even did two summer camps with them. Charities and organizations like these are as vital as the wildlife they preserve.
