So in case you’ve been living under a rock (0r in North Korea), one of the biggest headlines in the week leading up to Christmas was Sony’s decision to pull the Seth Rogen/James Franco comedy The Interview after North Korea threatened violence at movie theaters (not to mention, allegedly hacked Sony and leaked sensitive and embarrasing information). The comedy was about a successful plot to kill the socialist state’s leader King Jong-Un, which of course didn’t sit well with North Korea. Sony eventually decided to release the movie online and at independent theaters on Christmas Day. The whole situation brought up a dialogue about how a corporation would capitulate to a country’s vague demands, while simultaneously becoming the most successful film Sony has ever released online.

At any rate, Chelsea Grin decided to get in on the action, and are releasing a limited edition shirt that features Jong-Un with a chelsea grin (aka having your throat cut and your tongue pulled out of the wound). Are the band hoping to have North Korea condemn them, like they did the film? So far, there’s been no response, and given that there are only 100 shirts being made, there probably won’t be one. But you can’t fault the deathcore band for capitalizing on a trend. You can pre-order the shirt here.
