Who: King’s X frontman/bassist Douglas “dUg” Pinnick
What For: Hernia surgery
Seeking: $25,000
Collected: $20,051 (80%)
Days Left: 72
Chance of successful campaign: high
Like most musicians, King’s X singer and bassist dUg Pinnick doesn’t have health insurance. For a while now, he’s needed hernia surgery, but hasn’t been able to afford it, so he’s been touring, recording and rehearsing in pain. Two friends started the “Let’s Give Back To dUg” campaign last month, but we only heard about it today when Pantera shared it on their Facebook page, saying “dUg Pinnick of King’s X has been a close friend of ours for a long time! He needs surgery & like many musicians, he has no health insurance. If you can, please help by donating! Any amount will help him.”
With 72 days and less than $5k to go to reach their goal of $25,000, it seems like dUg will definitely be able to get the surgery he needs. Reading stories of how he and his music have inspired some of the donors is a big part of why it will most likely succeed. If a band or musician has a dedicated fan base, they’ll step up when asked to, especially since this is a health issue and not just something related to the band or dUg making money.
