Nope, we’re not talking about the Proud to be Loud era of the band. Everyone knows that the transition between being unsigned and Cowboys From Hell found the band  switching from Judas Priest-inspired glam metal to the groove-metal sound they rode to platinum success. However, after their second album for Atco, Vulgar Display of Power, the band answered with their seventh album Far Beyond Driven, which is probably the balls out heaviest album to ever debut at #1 on Billboard‘s charts. It was tuned down to C#, and initially featured artwork of a drill impaling an anus. The Great Southern Trendkill continued the trajectory – another brutally heavy record from a band that could’ve easily made radio rock that was more “Cemetery Gates” than “Good Friends & a Bottle of Pills.”
