When Carnivore singer/bassist Peter Steele quit the band after two albums to form a band called Sub Zero, many were expecting another thrash band. Instead, Type O Negative was more inspired by Black Sabbath and classic rock than anything else, but their doomy sound was definitely fleshed out by Josh Silver’s keyboards. At times sounding like a distorted bass, lushly filling out the band’s sound, or leading off songs like “Love You To Death” and “My Girlfriend,” the keyboard was a prominent part of the band’s dark and campy goth-metal sound.
