3) Fear Factory, “Bite the Hand That Bleeds” from Saw (2004) No matter how far off the rails the franchise’s 15 sequels flew off the rails, the original Saw is a brilliant, contained little story in itself, and even 10 years later the movie is totally un-fuck-withable. Bar-none one of the best scenes of the movie is the very last moment. Saw’s endings always spend a moment recapping the little details once the big twist has been dropped, and in this one, it’s that after protagonist Adam finally succumbs and saws off his own foot in exchange for his freedom, the dead body on the floor between our two leads is revealed to actually be Jigsaw, the serial killer mastermind and voice of that iconic puppet. He slams the door shut on Adam, leaving him to die. What better notes to close out such a grim ending than Fear Factory’s industrial melancholia?
