Rob Zombie NOT Directing “The Dirt”

Posted by on March 4, 2011

Earlier this week, we were surprised when Billboard let it slip that Rob Zombie was going to be directing the movie adaptation of Motley Crue’s infamous autobiography The Dirt — Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band. It’s not that we were caught off guard that Zombie would be collaborating with the Crue in some fashion, but more so that 1) the on again-off again movie adaptation was back on, and that 2) the story of Rob Zombie directing the movie seemed extremely downplayed in the article. Well, we now understand the reasoning behind #2: because it’s not happening.

In a video interview with Undercover.fm that will be published next week, Zombie made it clear by saying “No, I’m not doing the Motley Crue movie. I don’t know where that came from.” However, in case it wasn’t clear enough, Zombie went to his Twitter account to say the following:

“Why does everyone keep asking if I am directing THE DIRT? I am not. I am directing THE LORDS OF SALEM. Recording a CD after that.”

So there you have it, Zombie will not be directing The Dirt. With that said, we along with Zombie want to know: where did the rumor come from? Granted, the only thing that ever connected the two was one line mentioning his name from Billboard, no quotes from Tommy Lee (who was interviewed for the piece) or any other information regarding his inclusion. The only real disappointing part about this is that if there was ever a chance to see Vince Neil chopped into bloody pieces, it would be in a Rob Zombie film. But now that’s less likely to happen.
