It hasn’t been completely confirmed yet that Jay Weinberg is the new drummer of Slipknot. However, beyond a handful of metal sites (like, y’know, ours), the Toronto Sun has become the first mainstream publication to suggest that he might be Joey Jordison’s replacement in the band. And now Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace has weighed in on the alleged appointment via her Twitter account, going on a tirade about Weinberg, who quit the band in 2012 without telling anyone:

Weinberg played in Against Me! from 2010 – 2012 before abruptly leaving. “He never said a word,” Grace told Property of Zack about his sudden departure.” I just woke up one morning and read on Twitter that he was leaving the band.”  When asked if it might have had something to do with Grace’s transformation from a man to a woman, she replied “I have no idea. I have no ability to hypothesize about it.” But since then, she’s been going on a rampage about her former drummer online. Among the allegations:

  • Weinberg sprained his ankle and wanted their tour manager to call 911. When they said no, “the drummer’s daddy” (aka Bruce Springsteen/Conan O’Brien drummer Max Weinberg) scolded the tour manager, saying the drummer was a “star” and needed to be treated as such
  • he would go behind the band’s back and tell house light people to focus all stage lights on him.
  • He threatened to sue after he quit
  • He once told Grace to move aside onstage  because the audience couldn’t see enough of him.

Grace recently tweeted “I’m just kidding, none of that ever happened.” It’ll be interesting to see if Weinberg responds, but considering he hasn’t officially even joined the band yet, that might take a while.
