This past Friday, one of the biggest metal albums of the year came out, Lamb of God’s VII: Sturm und Drang. If you care about the state of the music industry and like metal, you’ve probably already bought it. As Randy Blythe noted in an Instagram post, it’s battling Jill Scott for the #1 album in the country next week. While we don’t have anything that exciting brewing this week, there are some solid numbers being put up by some of the other releases out there. Read on, readers.
Notable Debuts:
George Lynch, Shadow Train (Rat Pak Records) #88, 3,000 sold
Former Dokken guitarist (and Lynch Mob founder) is back for the attack with his 12th (!) solo album.
Powerwolf, Blessed & Possessed (Napalm) 975 sold
The German power metal band’s sixth album has a solid start.
Notable Sales:
Breaking Benjamin, Dark Before Dawn (Hollywood) #15, 10,300 sold
A fourth week of over 10,000 sales is a huge success with any rock record. It should cross 200,000 sold next week.
Kid Rock, First Kiss (Warner Bros.) #47 5,400 sold
This album’s up to about 300,000 sold. Almost enough to buy a yacht called Chillin the Most and rock that bitch up and down the coast.
Memphis May Fire, Unconditional (Razor & Tie) #64, 4,000 sold
Not sure what made this jump back on the chart, but it only sold a little over 150 copies last week.
August Burns Red, Found In Faraway Places (Fearless) #90, 2,900 sold
Only a 9% drop in week three suggests that this is the band’s comfort zone, which ain’t a bad place to be.
Between The Buried And Me, Coma Ecliptic (Metal Blade) #92, 2,800 sold
A pretty huge 85% drop in week 2, but it’s still majorly impressive that they had the #6 album in the country last week.
Of Mice & Men, Restoring Force (Rise) re-entry #112, 2,400 sold
This 2014 album has quietly sold almost 200,000 albums.
Halestorm, Into the Wild Life (Atlantic) #137, 1,900 sold
This sells roughly the same as it did last week.
Slipknot, .5: The Gray Chapter (Roadrunner) #157, 1,675 sold
This sold the same amount as it did last week. Should be interesting to see if the just-started tour contributes to additional sales.
Cradle of Filth, Hammer of the Witches (Nuclear Blast) #160, 1,600 sold
A pretty modest 55% second week drop proves that many people don’t think Cradle of Filth is a c**t.
Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways (RCA) #183, 1,400 sold
Now that Dave’s off the road, does he keep the throne? I would.
Phinehas, Till the End (Artery) #200, 1,275 sold
Just holding on, the band have a pretty respectable 61% second week drop.
Bobaflex, Anything That Moves (Bobaflex) 830 sold
These guys sold more than they did in the second week than they did in their first.
Lindemann, Skills In Pills (Warner Bros.) 630 sold
This sold 8% more than it did last week. Maybe some people told their friends “du hast” to hear it!
Babymetal, Babymetal (VAP Japan) 525 sold
This will hit the 25,000 sold mark shortly. Pretty impressive.
Hundredth, Free (Hopeless) 520 sold
Warped Tour must be helping these guys out, as they sold 41% more than last week.
Youth In Revolt, Love is a Liar’s Game (Outerloop) 500 sold
This band is from Howell, NJ, which from our recollection has a lot of strip malls and highways.
Our Last Night, Younger Dreams (Self-Released) 500 sold
The band has a big 35% jump in sales. Thanks, Warped Tour!
Iwrestledabearonce, Hail Mary (Artery Recordings) 360 sold
A modest 20% increase in week 4 suggests that people are saying Hail to the yes.
Palisades, Mind Games (Rise) 350 sold
This Jersey band has sold nearly 9,000 copies of their Rise debut.
Refused, Freedom (Epitaph) 335 sold
This has a 35% increase in week #4. Their tour dates with Faith No More next week might bump things up a bit more.
Orchid, Sign of the Witch (Nuclear Blast) 330 sold
The doom band’s fourth album sells about what it sold last week, for a total of about 650 sold.
Armored Saint, Win Hands Down (Metal Blade) 320 sold
This is continuing to sell, with an increase from the previous week in it’s seventh week.
Jungle Rot, Order Shall Prevail (Victory) 315 sold
Another week three increase, this from some former Slayer fans.
Full Devil Jacket, Valley of Bones (eOne Music) 300 sold
Remember these guys? Another 300 people did this week.
Amaranthe, Massive Addictive (Spinefarm) 275 sold
As promises, this record has crossed the 20,000-sold milestone, 39 weeks in.
Shattered Sun, Hope Within Hatred (Victory) 250 sold
Looks like Mayhem Fest is helping these guys out some. What are your thoughts, Kerry?
Sons of Texas, Baptized in the Rio Grande (Razor & Tie) 200 sold
A 15% boost from last week is enough to make them chart again. They’ve sold over 8,300.
Like a Storm, Awaken the Fire (Another Century)
This hard rock band have sold over 10,000 copies of their first album for Century. They re-enter the charts this week with a 20% increase from last week.
