The Hell have penned a rather introspective open letter, this time regarding their own lyrical content from their 2013 album, You’re Listening To THE HELL. In this latest message, the band, “collectively apologise for being misguided fucking cretins.”
From the band’s Facebook:
“AT THE TIME THE BAND WAS A COLLABORATIVE STUDIO PROJECT BASED IN WATFORD AND WAS CONTRIBUTED TO BY ALL SORTS OF FUCKING IDIOTS. EITHER WAY, WHEN I JOINED THE BAND PROPERLY LATER IN 2013 FOLLOWING THE RELEASE OF THE ALBUM I BECAME AWARE OF WHAT SOME OF THE COOKIE MONSTER LYRICS WERE AND HAVE NEVER PERFORMED THEM AS RECORDED.
I’M SURE I CAN SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE OTHER VOCALISTS ON THE TRACK WHEN I SAY THAT THEY DIDN’T INTEND ANY MALICE AND THAT THE SONG IS ENTIRELY TONGUE-IN-CHEEK, BUT THAT DOESN’T MAKE IT ALRIGHT.”
It wouldn’t be a proper open letter from The Hell if they didn’t take a swipe at some other bands, and Nails doesn’t disappoint:
“I HATE ALL THE FUCKING EMMURES, THE ATTILAS, EVERY SLIMY FUCKING PRICK IN A BAND THAT STANDS ON A STAGE AND BEHAVES IN A WAY THAT PROMOTES INEQUALITY AND BULLSHIT ATTITUDES.”
The Hell took on metalcore last summer, calling out bands that are, “SELLING T-SHIRTS TO PRE-TEENS THAT LOOK LIKE SOME KIND OF SWEARY, MISOGYNIST VERSION OF ADVENTURE TIME,” and taking a jab at Falling in Reverse in the process.
The Hell released Groovehammer last year on Prosthetic Records, shortly after “kidnapping” label owner E.J. Johantgen.

I RECENTLY GOT ASKED TO RESPOND TO THE ALLEGATIONS THAT THE HELL WERE A MISOGYNIST BAND. HERE IS MY RESPONSE.
I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY SOMEONE WOULD THINK WE WERE A MISOGYNIST BAND, BECAUSE OUR FIRST ALBUM CONTAINS THE WOMAN-HATING BARNSTORMER “THESE BUTTERS BITCHES”.

WHY BOTHER?
