Just a few weeks ago Sharon Osbourne announced (below) Black Sabbath’s “farewell,” taking place this November at Ozzfest in Japan. But now Black Sabbath won’t be performing after all, and in their place will be Ozzy Osbourne and friends.
The news comes from the Black Sabbath Facebook account:
“Despite previous reports, Black Sabbath will not appear on this year’s Ozzfest Japan, the show will instead feature the festival’s namesake, Ozzy Osbourne (and friends).”
The last time Ozzy Osbourne and friends filled in for Black Sabbath was in 2012, when guitarist Tony Iommi (now 67) had to leave their European tour for treatment for lymphoma. Hopefully this isn’t the reason for their most recent cancellation.
Ozzfiesta in Riviera Maya, Mexico, which was supposed to happen in May, was cancelled because Ozzy needed surgery that month, and would need, “at least four weeks of recovery time.” At least Ozzy will be well enough to play in November, apparently, but when Black Sabbath’s “farewell” will be is still to be determined.
