Australia has a thriving metal scene, but doom isn’t necessarily the first subgenre to come to mind when thinking of the continent. Sydney six-piece The Slow Death might change that, though. The band’s third album, Ark, will be released on March 16 on Chaos Records. Citing bands like My Dying Bride and early Anathema as influences, the six-track album unfolds at a leisurely pace, with Mandy Andreson’s melodic vocals contrasting with Gregg Williamson’s guttural growls. There’s always a sense of melody, even as the lumbering riffs come in. The nearly 17-minute long “Adrift” is epic funeral doom at it’s doomiest.

You can preorder Ark here, and keep up with the band via Facebook.
