Starting next week in their hometown of Miami, Torche will be heading out on the road with Nothing and fellow Floridians Wrong. Aside from the fact that it’s kind of awesome “Nothing Wrong” are opening for Torche, Wrong have premiered a song from their first-ever EP, Stop Giving. The band formed from the ashes of Capsule, and also features former members of Torche and Kylesa, so their musical credibility is intact. So is their appreciation for Helmet. “Call It,” which Noisey premiered recently, sounds so much like Meantime-era Helmet that if the band took them out on their tour of Betty, most fans would have thought the headliner went on early.
Listen, we’re not saying that’s a bad thing. Helmet’s angular grooves and mixture of metal, hardcore and noise rock was a brand new sound for the ’90s, and since 2010 was the last time Helmet graced us with new material, maybe there’s a need for their sound. “Call It” is an awesome three and a half minutes of music. But if Tom Petty can get paid by Sam Smith, maybe Page Hamilton has a few bucks coming his way if Wrong hits it big. Either way, we’re looking forward to checking them out on tour.
