It has been four years since Omnivium, and less than a year since drummer Hannes Grossmann and guitarist Christian Muenzner left the band, but Obscura have announced they’ll head into the studio this April, once again with producer V. Santura (he worked on Cosmogenesis, and Omnivium).

Said guitarist and vocalist Steffen Kummerer:

“We are all pleased with the new material which pairs the songwriting, technicality and arrangements of our previous albums with the creative input of members Linus Klausenitzer, Tom “Fountainhead” Geldschläger and Sebastian Lanser, while keeping our trademark prog riffing across the fusion and death metal landscape that makes Obscura sound unique. This album sees Obscura move a step further.”

This new album will be out late this year on Relapse Records, and will be the first for new drummer Sebastian Lanser and guitarist Tom Geldschläger. Kummerer knew that both new members would shape this new album:

“Tom “Fountainhead” Geldschläger and Sebastian Lanser will add some new and fresh vibes to Obscura’s trademark sound. Adding fretless guitars and more fusion drumming will definitely influence our songwriting.”
