Welcome to Snipe City, a weekly column looking at hockey from 36 Crazyfists singer, Alaska native and huge hockey fan Brock Lindow. 36 Crazyfists’ new album, Time & Trauma, will be released on February 17th on Spinefarm Records. You can read about that here.
Let me first take a brief moment to thank my amazingly hot wife for letting me board the bird and hop down to Seattle to witness an instant classic with the Seahawks and Packers this weekend. Not only was the game spectacular, but I got to watch one of my all time faves, Alice in Chains, rock the house. Now, let’s drop the puck!
I was catching a little flack from a couple of my boys about the absence of anything New York Rangers. I kind of despise them, but let’s call a spade a spade and note that they’re on fire! Yesterday’s win over the Pens solidified my belief that Rick Nash is a badass, scoring just 26 seconds into the game and cruising to a 5-2 victory. So there you go, Ranger fans; your boys are a bunch of danglers!
Nashville fans have to be fired up, thanks to their Preds, who in the last month have just about dismantled every team in their path. I wish the Flyers could have sealed the deal and signed Shea Webber — dude is a beast! Since they are sitting at the top of the standings, a Cup run is definitely in their future!
My fight of the week goes to the knuckle fest that took place during the Blackhawks/Stars game, with Patrick Sharp and Shawn Horcoff. You gotta love Sharp; he’ll stick a few where momma keeps the sugar as well as he’ll get the mitts off and go toe-to-toe with anyone. Winner: Sharp!
Congrats go out to my hometown boys the UAA Seawolves and Coach Matt Thomas, taking a weekend sweep over interstate rivals UAF with freshman goaltender Olivier Mantha making save after save. The boys in green and gold survived to squeak out a 3-2 overtime victory, taking a two games to none lead in the storied Governors Cup!
Well, the weekend was one for the ages and my head is spinning; back to Anchortown I go and in need of some noon shinny. I heard there might be a couple scouts from the Tallahassee Warthogs at the rink this week. Wish me luck!
Keep your head up,
Brock
