eastoftheFolkie Nick Drake died in 1974 at the age of 26 following an overdose of antidepressants, long before he got the recognition he deserved. Other musicians and a Volkswagen commercial have made the English songwriter much more popular in death than he was alive, however. And now, for a split 7″ with Cryptodira, East of the Wall have covered his song “River Man,” and it’s streaming on Vice. While there are a lot more singer-songwriter types that have covered the band, East of the Wall’s prog take of the song, originally on Drake’s debut album, 1969’s Five Leaves Left, fits particularly well.

The 7″ single, which is pressed on opaque blue vinyl, is available here from Epistemic Records.
