Iraqi heavy metal band Acrassicauda moved to the US in 2008, put out an EP, and then last year launched a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund the recording of a full-length album. The campaign goal  was met, and the band surpassed their goal of $33,000.

With that funding ($37,383 in total) they entered the studio in September of 2014, and began work on their debut record, Gilgamesh. The band first released the first song from the album, “Rise,” to the Kickstarter backers, but now the song is available to everyone.

This new abum will be the follow up to their 2010 EP, Only the Dead See the End of the War, which was produced by Testament’s Alex Skolnick and came out on Vice Music. Acrassicauda were the focus of Heavy Metal in Baghdad, the documentary by Vice that came out in 2007.
