When looking back at the year in metal, 2014 will be known as the year Babymetal came to America. The combination of J-pop and metal may turn out to be a short-lived gimmick here, but the Su-Metal, Yuimetal and Moametal and their backing band have sold a solid amount of albums in the states despite the album only being available digitally. They also were hand-selected by Lady Gaga to open for a handful of shows for her, played a sold out show in Los Angeles, and a damn near sold-out one in New York, stole the show at Heavy Montreal. So it makes sense they put out a document of their live show. That will happen when Live at Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse is released on January 7.
Live at Budokan documents Babymetal’s first of three performances at Nippon Budokan, in which the three front-women of the band became the youngest artists ever to appear there. It will come in three versions, one of which, the CD version, will come with a code to download a new song called “The One,” which is a collaboration between Babymetal’s production team and Dragonforce guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman. It doesn’t seem like that much of a stretch that Dragonforce and Babymetal team up. They both play music that sounds like it should be in a video game, and we don’t mean that in a bad way.
The formats it will come in are a DVD/ Blu-ray box featuring both of the band’s Budokan shows, the first being “Red Night” and the second “Black Night,” the CD version, titled Live at Budokan: Red Night, and a limited box exclusive to the Babymetal fan club called Live at Budokan ‘Budo-Can – The One – Limited Box that will have the DVD/Blu-ray of both nights, and the exclusive Live at Budokan: Black Night CD.
