2cellos-iron-maiden-rossini-video-1413908442-article-0We’ve written about Croation-Slovakian cello duo 2Cellos before, when they covered AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” along with Steve Vai. Now they’ve returned to put their distorted cello stamp on another hard rock/metal song, but with a twist. They’ve released a video for what they’re calling “The Trooper Overture.” Yes, it’s somewhat of a cover of Iron Maiden’s “The Trooper,” but it’s just as much a cover of “The William Tell Overture.” Not familiar with Gioachino Rossini’s “The William Tell Overture?” If you’ve ever watched cartoons, you totally are. The video is pretty great too, showing the pair playing to a disinterested crowd at a rock club until they kick into Maiden and everyone goes nuts. It’s a nice fusion of metal and classical, and more importantly, the duo have a good sense of humor about themselves. And it seems to be paying off. The video’s already gotten over 100,000 views since it was uploaded yesterday. Who knew Rossini fans were so passionate?
