Are you familiar with “Glad You Came,” by UK boy band, The Wanted? If not, then you don’t have a kid sister and probably didn’t listen to the radio two years ago. The song was pretty inescapable at top 40 radio, and now We Came as Romans have re-appropriated it in a live and heavier version that’s going to be on the band’s DVD, Present, Future and Past. Here’s what singer Dave Stephens said about the track to Billboard, who premiered the video yesterday:
We had a lot of fun creating this cover, and playing it live is always amazing. Our fans really seem to love it and sing it loudly with us every night. It was also great to be able to record it with our good friend Nick Sampson. It was an all around awesome experience and were so happy with how everything came out!
Here’s why it makes some semblance of sense for the WCAR to cover the song. The Wanted are all musicians, but as a boy band, they stick to the whole choreography and singing thing and have assembled a backing band for touring. That band includes Primitive Weapons bassist Eric Odness, former From Autumn to Ashes guitarist Brian Deneeve and former Thursday drummer Tucker Rule. With such a hardcore backing band, WCAR were undoubtedly familiar with the band (or at least the song) from it’s backing band’s other musical offerings. For means of comparison, here’s the original video:
