It was just a few days ago when it was announced that ex-Megadeth members Nick Menza and James LoMenzo were collaborating on a sort of mystery project together along with singer/guitarist Davor Garašić, of the Croatian thrash metal band Sufosia. Now it turns out that the first piece of music from them has surfaced on Nick Menza’s YouTube page—hilariously enough, a cover of Metallica’s “Motorbreath.” As ironic as it is that ex-Megadeth members are covering Metallica, simply because Megadeth came about because Dave Mustaine was ex-Metallica, the song is very reminiscent of the original recording Metallica recording from ’83, and it is definitely a worthy tribute.
They may be in the early stages, but they sound great together so far, and from what they’re saying, there might be some original material sometime in the future.
“Things are still in the developing stages, so as soon as James fulfills his touring obligations with John Fogerty, we’ll sink our teeth into this project. Right now, we’re having some fun and collaborating with other players from around the world via the Internet to see what’s out there. Nothing is set in stone.”
Menza was the legendary drummer behind such Megadeth works like Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction, while LoMenzo filled in the spot left behind by David Ellefson for United Abominations and Endgame.
