It looks like a new label isn’t the only big change for Darkest Hour. With their self-titled eighth album coming out in about 2 1/2 weeks, the band have unveiled another song from the album via a music video. “By the Starlight” features an assist from self-described “haze pop” artist DRÆMINGS, who also appears in the video for the song. Here’s what she said about appearing on the song, via her Facebook page:
Darkest Hour let me get in on this beautiful song. I grew up listening to hardcore and stoner metal, so I felt pretty honored that these legends let me come sing with them. (Also, I may or may not be the weird creep in the video).
It’s a really nice left turn for Darkest Hour. It’s melodic, yet gets heavy enough that no Darkest Hour fan should feel betrayed. And while DRÆMINGS’ beautiful vocals are one surprising thing that pop up in the song, perhaps even more surprising is how well John Henry can sing clean, which he does for over half the song. And with the band appearing on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival all summer, there’s probably a lot of people that might not have been familiar with the band seeing them for the first time.
Darkest Hour will be released on August 5th on Sumerian. Pick it up via preorder here.
