It’s been eight years since Norway’s legendary black metal band Carpathian Forest released their last album, 2006’s Fuck You All!!!! Caput tuum in ano est. And while the band are still playing shows here and there, there’s no new music on the horizon. Perhaps that’s part of why members BloodPervertor (guitars) and Tchort (bass, guitars) left the band last week, but the primary reason was to concentrate on a new project, The 3rd Attempt. Here’s what BloodPervertor had to say about their decision:
We are both the kind of musicians who very much enjoy what we do, both in the studio and on stage, and we wanted to be more active live than CARPATHIAN FOREST has allowed us to be over the past couple of years.
The band is looking for a vocalist, and that’s where you (maybe) come in. If you’re comfortable singing for a Norwegian black metal band with elements of death, thrash and rock, you can try out for the band. The band’s set up a Soundcloud page that has two samples of songs. The two are asking potential vocalists to download the demos, add their vocals with written lyrics, send a bio and past YouTube performances and a summary of experience, if any. While The 3rd Attempt will be the final judges, they’ll make all of the submissions public and give fans a chance to have a say.
As Pitchfork notes, judging from the samples, there are tons of different ways this can go. The first song is almost straight-ahead, while the second is a little more traditional black metal, but also technical and with several time changes. In the hands of a capable vocalist, the songs could go in several directions. You’ve got until August 15th to give it your best shot.
