When Queens of the Stone Age broke their six year silence last year with the excellent …Like Clockwork, nobody was expecting a follow up any time soon. While that might not be happening right away, in an interview with Craveonline, not only did singer/guitarist Josh Homme name-check Vader, but he also admitted that there are already some new ideas on the horizon:

I’ve been writing a lot on the road, and there’s some stuff that we didn’t quite pick up to tinker with that was waiting in the wings on the last record that just never got… we had enough. We were having plenty of trouble figuring out those ones, so as not to pick up the other ones. And they didn’t really belong on the last record. Some of ‘em were too happy.

He also says that the band is “itchy to go back into the studio” with former The Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore, who only played on the title track of the album. Also discussed was a possible reunion of Them Crooked Vultures, which Homme says won’t happen until it’s time:

All I know is I know we all want that. I know all four of us, including Alain [Johannes] would love to do something again. And the Vultures is this thing where it needs to surprise us in the band just the way it did last time. And it’ll show up at some point like, ‘It’s time, boys!’ – and it needs to operate under that guise, or it’ll have the stink of desperation on it. It needs to be natural, and we all want it. So we’re just waiting for nature to take it’s course.

Queens of the Stone Age will close out the touring cycle for …Like Clockwork with a show at the Los Angeles Forum on Halloween. The show will also feature The Kills, JD McPherson and Nick Oliveri, who Homme says he reconciled with long ago:

Three months after I let Nick go, we were already going out and drinking beers together. That is a scar, but it healed 12 years ago. It’s been years and years now. And the truth is that we’ve always been there for each other, even when it got dark. And the sad thing is that people get included in something they don’t understand. But that’s the way this goes, you know?

Tickets go on sale for Queens’ “The End of the Road” show tomorrow (11) at 10am PT here.
