Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
It was a pretty slow week for chart debuts, and also another one of those “what decade is this” weeks. Sarah McLachlan and Santana have two of the top ten debuts this week. At least the top hard rock debut is on Roadrunner, even if they won’t have an Opeth album out for a few more months.

The album that Roadrunner told Opeth fans to go buy is the band’s highest charting album yet.
Being as an Ocean, How We Wondrously Perish (Invogue) #57, 5,325 sold
The melodic post-hardcore band’s sophomore album has a pretty impressive debut, given that their first album didn’t chart on Billboard’s top 200 at all.
Epica, The Quantum Enigma (Nuclear Blast) #98, 3,700 sold
This is about the same debut as their last album, 2012’s Requiem for the Indifferent, which debuted at 105. Does symphonic metal have a ceiling?
Xandria, Sacrificium (Napalm) 850 sold
The German symphonic band’s latest is on the charts, though it’s faring better in other countries.
In Hearts Wake, Earthwalker (We Are Unified) 800 sold
It seems like every week, another Australian band is showing up on the charts.

Rodrigo y Gabriela, 9 Dead Alive (ATO Records) #64, 5,025 sold
A 50% drop in week two, but we saw them play one of two sold out shows recently, so it’s not like they’re getting any less popular.
Avenged Sevenfold, Hail To The King (Warner Bros.) #75, 4,375 sold
A boost of 17%. and sales of 467,000. Nine months in. They’re having a hail of a run.
Chevelle, La Gargola (Epic) #92, 3,950 sold
80,000 copies in six weeks isn’t bad for this band. Especially considering many people probably don’t even know they have an album out.
Black Label Society, Catacombs of the Black Vatican (eOne) #100, 3,625 sold
Did you see the video of the band playing “I’m Broken” with Phil Anselmo? You ought to.
Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 2 (Prospect Park) #102, 3,550 sold
25 and still going with just under 250,000 sold.
The Pretty Reckless, Going To Hell (Razor & Tie) #110, 3,200 sold
This album falls outside of the top 100 for the first time since it was released six weeks ago.
Whitechapel, Our Endless War (Metal Blade) #118, 3,025 sold
An 81% drop? Of course you know this means war.
Volbeat, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies (Universal/Republic) #131, 2,850 sold
Another boost this week of 15%.
Skillet, Rise (Atlantic) #135, 2,775 sold
A big boost of 60% keeps this on the rise.

This continues to boost up with 13% this week.

With an 82% second week drop, looks like the lion’s share of people bought the album the first week.
Gemini Syndrome, Lux (Warner Bros.) 750 sold
A big boost of 70% thanks to their current tour.
Insomnium, Shadows of the Dying Sun (Century Media) 640 sold
With 2,500 sold so far, doesn’t look like too many people are sleeping on this.
For The Fallen Dreams, Heavy Hearts (Rise) 610 sold
This fell off the charts a bit last week, but now it’s back on.
Triptykon, Melana Chasmata (Century Media) 600 sold
A drop of 29% this week.
Floor, Oblation (Season of Mist) 540 sold
We were floored by this album. Hopefully a modest 40% second week drop suggests that we’re not the only ones.
Kyng, Burn The Serum (Razor & Tie) 530 sold
Have you seen the video for “Electric Halo” yet? It’s a good one.
Edguy, Space Police: Defenders of the Crown (Nuclear Blast) 520 sold
Have the space police ever watched Super Troopers? Because that’s what the cover makes me think of.

A drop of 72%.
Upon This Dawning, We Are All Sinners (Artery) 430 sold
A pretty significant 74% drop in week two.
Aborted, The Necrotic Manifesto (Century Media) 430 sold
The Belgian deathgrind band sold 79% less than last week
Glass Cloud, Perfect War Forever (Equal Vision) 420 sold
Tour magic continues with a big boost of 53%.
Vattnet Viskar, Sky Swallower (Century Media) 400 sold
The band must have made an impression on their tour with The Dillinger Escape Plan.
Anti-Mortem, New Southern (Nuclear Blast) 390 sold
Is there anyone that’s pro-mortem? I mean, there’s plenty of post-mortems, but not pro. We’re kinda mortem-neutral.
Crown The Empire, The Fallout (Rise) 360 sold
We’re tired of making checkers jokes.
Butcher Babies, Goliath (Century Media) 330 sold
This had a nice jump last week, likely because of the Revolver Golden Gods tour. It’s still doing pretty solidly though.
Babymetal, Babymetal (VAP Japan) 320 sold
They’re taking over! They’ve already sold 8,200 over here without an American label, and just yesterday, they were in New York. Send help!
Autopsy, Tourniquets, Hacksaws & Graves (Peaceville) 310 sold
Maybe coming out with an album after only one year didn’t help the band. This album’s only sold 875 copies in two weeks.
Righteous Vendetta, The Fire Inside (EBM) 310 sold
This has almost sold 10,000 copies in about half a year.
Delain, The Human Contradiction (Napalm) 290 sold
This sells roughly the same amount as it did last week.
