krokusDid you miss Record Store Day 2014? If you did, don’t be ashamed, because I did too. Blame it on the fact that I don’t own a record player, or the fact that it was a holiday weekend – either way, I missed the vinyl. But you might still have a chance to get some of the RSD 2014 specials at your local participating music store. Just check out the RSD Store Locator and get the location nearest you. You won’t want to miss out on the specials from Clutch, Machine Head, Mastodon, Dream Theater, Between the Buried and Me, Katatonia, and many others.

Anyway, today’s new release list has a whopping two albums on it, which isn’t much for sating your metal appetite. I suppose it’s making up for next week and the glut of new material you’ll have to digest. In any case, here are your new albums for today:

Krokus, Long Stick Goes Boom: Live from da House of Rust (The End)

Swiss rockers Krokus have been around for nearly four decades, and their following has only grown as time has progressed. Apparently, the band recorded twenty different live performances for the possibility of being released as a live album. In the end, the final sold out show of their 2013 tour, a hometown show at the venerable House of Rust, won the right to be their live album. The set list from this show covers much of the group’s career, and should be an enjoyable listen for all Krokus fans.

Skinfather, None Will Mourn (Streetcleaner)

Taking their name from a track by death metal legends Dismember, Skinfather follows the example of Dismember in playing old school death metal with a dash of hardcore influence. The Southern California group released an EP last year on Life and Death Records, which garnered the attention of Streetcleaner and several other publications. None Will Mourn is the first full-length from a young band with plenty of talent.

Next Week: The heavy and the well-known take center stage, making up for this week’s short list nicely! Come back to see what leads off a jam-packed list!
